Greener Ealing Ltd is committed to encouraging its workforce to take up apprenticeships. We currently have 5 apprentices learning about horticulture, waste management and how to become a successful team leader.
Evelina Barauska joined us through the Kickstart scheme and is now doing a Grounds Maintenance apprenticeship and has a full-time role with Greener Ealing Ltd.
“I’m a Grounds Maintenance apprentice. I’ve learnt so much from my team about looking after green spaces. I love being outdoors”.
These are not all school leavers, 4 out of 5 of our apprentices have been with us for years but they are taking up the opportunity for personal development, career progression, and the chance to learn new skills.
Barry Williams is a supervisor at Greener Ealing Ltd’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Greenford and his apprenticeship is Level 4 Operator Competence run by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management Training & Advisory Board.
“I have chosen to do this course as it is massively beneficial to my personal career development and will help me progress within the waste industry. I now have more responsibility at work and a far deeper understanding of how to run a waste and recycling centre”.
Darren Stirling is a supervisor in our Street Cleansing department and is currently doing an NVQ in team leadership. He has also previously done an apprenticeship to get his HGV license. Darren explains why he decided to take another apprenticeship.
“I want to grow within the company. I want to understand how to manage the team effectively. I want to play my part in making GEL a good workplace for everyone.
I am already better at the written work in my job and there are many techniques and things I’ve learnt on the course that I now use. It’s a great way to further your education, do a better job and see different parts of the business”.
